ALL ABOUT IVF

Are you considering in vitro fertilization (IVF) to build your family?

Maybe you’ve just begun the process, or perhaps you’re still gathering information. Whatever stage you’re at, welcome! This blog is for you.

What is IVF?

In vitro fertilization is where an egg is collected and combined with sperm outside the body, then returned to the woman’s uterus.

Usually, one full cycle of IVF takes about three weeks.

What is the difference between IVF and ICSI?

ICSI, is used in case of a low number, movement/quality of sperm, high level of antibodies against sperm, and in case of failure in artificial insemination (the doctor takes sperm from the man through a microscope and injects it into an egg).

While IVF is used in case of increased age in women, blockage/damage of fallopian tubes.

IVF process steps

  • Ovulation stimulation:
The woman is given a combination of drugs known as fertility drugs to help stimulate ovulation in addition to the production of more than one egg. This is to increase the chance of successful ovulation.
  • Egg extraction:
The patient is injected to release the eggs from the ovary under anesthetisea.

The vagina is then cleansed; the valid eggs and the fluid in the vesicles or sacs (responsible for carrying the eggs inside the ovary) are withdrawn.

  • Fertilization:
Collecting the eggs extracted from the ovaries and mixing them with the semen extracted from the man (after making sure of his safety). This process takes place within a few hours after the egg is extracted and takes two days.
  • Embryo transfer and egg return:
When fertilization takes place, the embryo is returned to the uterus to complete its normal development.

Information that may interest you:

Can I travel after IVF?
Our answer is that after the embryo transfer, you can rest for an hour, and then you can travel, move and go about your life normally. However, try to decrease strenuous physical efforts as much as possible.

The success rates of ICSI with frozen embryos are very close to fresh embryos, so there is no fear about embryo freezing.

The sex can be determined in the case of genetic testing of embryos before they are returned to the uterus.
